The 2006 Art Car Tour across Nebraska will take place along historic Route 6 Nebraska from August 19-27, 2006 to promote the history, natural beauty, and recreation of the communities along Route 6 Nebraska.
“The second annual Route 6 Nebraska Art Car Tour has been expanded to nine days so we can visit even more communities,” said organizer Don Robertson. “Art Car Artists will join parades, festivals, and community celebrations across the state. Visits to Girls and Boys Town, art galleries, museums, attractions, schools, historic locations and nursing homes will give us the opportunity to show this unique art form to an even wider audience.”
Award-winning Art Car Artists from across the nation have committed to the tour and will join residents in promoting their communities. Local Art Car Artists are invited to join them along the way and spectators are welcome at all events.
The creation of an Art Car involves modifying a vehicle with paint, gluing or adding and subtracting material to the body of a road worthy machine to make a moving work of art.
The Route 6 Nebraska organization was formed to promote the 18 counties situated along what is Nebraska’s first highway, which was built by a group of businessmen in 1911. This coast-to-coast route was designated nationally as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway and the Roosevelt Highway. In our region, it was known historically as the O-L-D, Omaha-Lincoln-Denver and the D-L-D, Detroit-Lincoln-Denver.
