AAA Travel Warns New Brides – Make Certain Air Travel Documents Match

AAA Travel would like to remind new brides who plan to take an air travel honeymoon to a country outside of the U.S. – make certain that the name listed on your airline ticket, passport, and government photo I.D., are identical. If they do not match, you will likely be detained at the security check points. If you plan to take a honeymoon shortly after your wedding day, AAA Travel suggests that you keep all travel documents under your maiden name, but bring along a copy of your marriage license.

Upon your return from your honeymoon, you should have your government photo identifications and passport updated with your new married name. If the name change is submitted within 12-months after the issuing date of the passport, all you need to do is file a name change amendment which can be done free of charge. If you fail to do so within one-year after the issuing date of your passport, you will need to purchase a new passport.

Women who are recently divorced should also keep in mind that the name listed on all three travel documents – airline ticket, passport, and government issued photo I.D. – must be identical to avoid complications at the security check points. The U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and State recently extended to Jan. 23, 2007, the date by which all U.S., Canadian, Mexican and Bermudan citizens must present a passport when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere. Originally scheduled for implementation Jan. 8, the deadline was extended in response to airline industry concerns about heavy holiday travel.
